Understanding Our Selection Process

Our music team carefully considers several key factors when choosing music for airplay:

Legalities: Every song we play is licensed

Musical Excellence: Our listeners trust us to bring them high-quality Christian music that inspires and uplifts. We focus on well-crafted songs with professional production values, regardless of whether they come from established labels or independent artists. We suggest before even submitting a .wav file, you listen to the final produced versions of 2 songs that we play here on Joy99 and put yours in the middle. Does it sound like it has the same production quality, same depth and same musicality as the others? Are the instruments rhythmically in sync? Are the vocalists on pitch? Are the words understandable?

Heart for Ministry: We value artists who demonstrate genuine commitment to serving Christ through their music. Your active involvement in local churches and Christian outreach speaks volumes about your ministry's authenticity.

Proven Dedication: While we celebrate fresh talent, we especially appreciate artists who've shown long-term commitment to their calling - those who've faithfully served through music regardless of recognition.

Living the Message: Your personal walk with Christ matters. We look for artists whose lives and lyrics align with biblical values, creating music that genuinely reflects their faith journey.

Station Character: Each piece of music needs to resonate with JOY99's unique sound and our listeners' preferences. We carefully consider how new music fits within our overall programming.

 

Behind the Scenes at JOY99

We want to be transparent about our process:

  • Our small team reviews every submission with care and prayer

  • We receive around 25 new songs monthly but can only add 1-2 to our rotation

  • We rely heavily on listener feedback through various channels to guide our choices

  • Nearly 100% of our songs come through a record company or the industry site PlayMPE

  • While we can't personally respond to everyone, we value each submission
